The Johanson family of Westlake Village has taken tremendous steps to make their 70’s ranch style home as green as possible and reduce their carbon footprint. They repainted the house with low-VOC paint, replaced all of their windows with double-glazed windows, and purchased only Energy Star certified appliances. But something was missing until they invested in the power of solar with not one, but two solar electrical systems that are so efficient that they more than eliminate the home’s electric bill. The 9kW system on the roof is comprised of 44 Kyocera 205-watt modules, and the 3.2kW patio cover system is comprised of 12 translucent Schott 265-watt panels. The solar power system panels were mounted on top of an existing concrete tile roof that was structurally reinforced in the attic to ensure stability and longevity.
